What did you are doing at preschool today? Strategies to activate your youngster

Submitted by on Friday May 7, 2010 No Comments

Often the best question posed to most children after preschool or even older school, the most common a reaction to the old question of “What did you do at child care Surprise AZ today?”, is not the response parents want.  “Nothing” “I don’t know” “I don’t remember” are surely the most popular answers to the timeless question.  However, we know, as a parent, the answer then is much deeper and contains great nuggets of data that you can build the blocks of better communication.  So don’t simply give up on trying to find out what your son or daughter or children did at school but change your strategy!

Follow these 4 steps to help you engage your son or daughter after school!

1.Don’t ask open ended questions. Instead, focus on specific targeted questions which might be built to have an answer.  For instance don’t ask “What happened at lunch today” but perhaps “Who did you take in lunch with”.  Furthermore, seek advice for example “The thing that was your selected thing today?” as opposed to “What did one does today” or did you use an upholstery stapler?  These questions help your kids to pick a specific thing which you’ll want to then phone for more information.

2.Determine the best time for you to engage them.  Some children are going to forget what they did in class 2 hours as soon as they leave so you’ll want to engage them without delay to be able to ascertain the most information.  But there are a few children who need time for you to decompress mentally before they might have a very meaningful conversation to you.  Whatever the case ensure you try lots of different approaches in order to discover what is most effective.

3.Don’t push it.  Learning about your child’s day must be fun and so the moment it turns into a battle for information simply take a pace back and try again later.  In case your child is getting visibly frustrated to you then just try again tomorrow.

4.Don’t stop.  Just like other things in your everyday living you might not get what you are interested in on the try so don’t give up and prevent trying.  Use different approaches throughout the afternoon and you also must keep trying each and every day.  Even if you do want to give up grab a cup of coffee with your senseo coffee pods and try again.

With all the above strategies it is possible to create a great relationship along with your child stuffed with good conversation.  The cornerstone of fine parent child communication provides a much better channel through which to contact your kids in his / her latter years.  If you don’t build these communication channels now how are you able to talk to them about a lot more difficult subjects for instance sex, drugs and violence?
