Style And Selection: Restaurant Furniture
Whatever furniture is placed in a restaurant, gives it a certain ambiance and gives customers a message about what kind of dining it offers. It can definitely be a thing of beauty but it also needs to be able to stand up to years of wear and use, and also provide a comfortable seating and eating experience for diners. Restaurant furniture should correspond appropriately to the type of business it is for.
Restaurant owners choosing furnishings for a restaurant should take into account the following things; the construction and quality of the pieces, buying something sturdy that can withstand years of use is preferable over something poorly made that doesn’t last. Furthermore, the style, atmosphere, dimensions and customer capacity all need to be factored into the final decision of what furniture is most appropriate for the particular location.
One common and comfortable type of seating found in many dining places, is the booth. These come in a variety of styles appropriate for different restaurants. There are contour booths that usually consist of solid, moulded plastic seats joined underneath by a metal frame to which a table top is attached as well in the middle, these are used most in casual dining places. There are also wooden bench booths which are popular for use in pub-style restaurants and cushiony upholstered ones that are used in fancier establishments mostly. These designs normally are placed around a table and come in different lengths and shapes, some are cut to fit corners or specific angles.
Booths are on seating option, but cannot normally seat a whole restaurant full of diners so chairs are used as well. Chairs can be metal, wood or even plastic, have backs or arms-or not, and have a cushioned seat or a wooden seat. Many lightweight models stack onto each other and can be easily placed out of the way during cleaning and such. Many others don’t offer stackability but they are solid and durable and usually more comfortable. Lots of different styles are available, a recent trend is the retro look, reminiscent of the chrome and vinyl look from the 50′s.
Tables in restaurants need to be strong, easy-to-clean and moveable. Their tops vary in size and are usually made of laminate, wood or resin, some are padded and vinyl-covered as well. The bases are constructed of durable steel and have either an “x”, column and spread, or round design structure that stabilizes them and keeps them firmly planted on the floor. Many tables can be built to specification where size is concerned.
Another type of fixture found in a number of restaurants, especially pubs and those with an attached bar, are bar stools. These types of seats are of course higher than chairs because they are intended to position the customer comfortably in line with the bar’s surface. In many cases, bar stools that match the regular chairs are available. They can be made of wood or metal, some have padded seats, some have a back-rest while others don’t. They come in both formal and casual styles.
Restaurant furniture comes in such a large selection and so many styles, colors, and construction materials are available that finding the right pieces for any restaurant should be easy to do.
