Simple Ways To Improve Your Fitness

Submitted by on Tuesday November 9, 2010 No Comments

Getting fit doesn’t always mean hitting the gym 5 days a week to run for an hour on the treadmill and come home shattered, it can if you want, but it doesn’t have to. Let’s face it, most of us as really unfit, which means that even just 10 minutes of extra exercise a week will be a huge improvement and help you start to get fitter.

Walking is a great form of exercise which not enough people do. People are often deceived by how gentle walking is and don’t think of it as exercise, but it is! So invest in an Omron HJ-112 pedometer which can then tell you both how many steps you walk in a normal day, and if you start to go out for some 30 minute walks in the evenings then it can tell you how far you go then as well. In 30 minutes you can actually walk a good distance, so you might be surprised how the miles quickly start to add up. Another thing which might surprise you is how much exercise walking can actually be, most people just amble along like they are window shopping, but if you pick the pace up like you would if you were worried about being late back from lunch at work or something like that, then you quickly tire out and get out of breath.

Gardening is also a great form of exercise. You will start to feel the burn as you dig out existing plants and dig holes for new ones, or lug around bags of fertilizer or the lawn mower etc, not to mention all the walking you will be doing as you work. It also gets you fresh air and stops you wasting away on the couch.

So take a quick look at your day and see if there is any way you can fit more walking into it, maybe at lunch, and then maybe at the weekend you can make a plan to revamp your garden so you get more exercise and end up with a more beautiful garden!
