Platinum rings for couples are the supreme ambiance

Modern trends in jewelry across the globe see the return of platinum and yellow gold ring that were the rage several decades ago. Perhaps it’s a natural transition for young couples who have been loading up on a number of silver ornaments over the last decade. During courtship, youngsters preferred to exchange silver rings as they weren’t as expensive as the others. They have thus developed an affinity for white pieces of jewelry. Thus when comes to selecting their wedding bands, they now prefer platinum/white gold over yellow gold. This trend is not a passing fancy. More than 30 % of all wedding rings bought in current times are made from either white gold or platinum. Most of the designs that you would come across in bridal magazines would be based on platinum. It is becoming the metal of choice for wedding jewelry.

Most couples in recent times are not going in for matching mens platinum wedding bands. Men are being much more involved in the selection process than they were in the past. Men are increasingly becoming fashion conscious and want their ring to be exclusive and stylish and not necessarily matching with the bride’s wedding ring. Although the styles may be different, most couples still prefer to do their ring shopping together. There are three main factors that need to be considered by the couple while finalizing their wedding rings – the metal, the gemstone and of course the budget.

One of the most successful early uses of platinum occurred in the early 1900s when celebrated jeweler Louis Cartier figured out how to bring out the full glory of platinum in the platinum wedding jewelry that he made for royals and other wealthy individuals throughout Europe and beyond. Then, in 1924 a massive platinum deposit was discovered in South Africa, and from that point forward, the platinum industry had its principle source.
