Pest Control Review in Sale, Urmston, Timperley and Altrincham Spring & Summer 2010
Pest and vermin control in Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire has seen a lively start in 2010 which is somewhat surprising given the very cold (weather of this last winter|winter of 2009/10}.
Pest operatives were kept working with the usual city centre rats and mice infestations during the winter of 2009/10, but the relatively cold early part of the year has already seen some ant infestation coming in.
The fairly wet summers of 2008 and 2009 were not to the liking of the hymenoptera (wasps, bees and ants) but 2010 looks like being a active year for ant callouts.
Usually ants build nests under the floors of homes and inside cavity walls causing an army of foraging ants to visit kitchens and food cupboards.
However it is at the annual mating time when they are at their most annoying as they release winged males and queens which then fly off to mate.
The release of several thousands of these winged ants inside your house can be horrific in the extreme.
A fairly new pest was very prevalant in the Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire area last year, the Varied Carpet Beetle (Anthrenus verbasci).
It was rare for pest operatives in Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire to encounter these pests until recent times but they seemed to appear from nowhere in recent times and already this March has seen reports of these insects in unprecedented numbers.
These insects have a similar life cycle to moths their larvae, called woolly bears devour natural fibres and can do a great deal of damage to carpets and natural fabrics. They are a difficult and persistent pest to get rid of.
Those involved in pest control have noted that Bed Bugs are continuing their resurgence in the Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire area, regularly arriving as stowaways in the suitcases of returning travellers.
Often the first reaction of unfortunate people who realise that they are infested with these revolting,blood-sucking creatures is to get rid of the infested beds and purchase.
This can be a costly mistake as despite their name bed bugs do not just stay in beds and in an infested room will be found everywhere within about five yards of the bed, in cupboards, drawers etc, even in electrical and telephone sockets and the new beds are rapidly re-infested.
Most people mistake bed bugs with dust mites which cannot be seen by the naked eye. They both need a different type of pest control.
They dine solely on blood which they take from their sleeping victims. People regularly associate bed bugs with dirty living conditions but nothing could be further from the truth, they do not need squalor, they dine on you!
