Goal Setting-How To Motivate Yourself To Achieve

Submitted by on Friday October 2, 2009 No Comments

I’m sure you’ve heard the same old advice over and over again…  Set a clear goal.  Make it specific.  Make it measurable.  Make it realistic and set a deadline.  But that advice only works if you can sustain the motivation to achieve the goal.

All the specific outcome does is help you to know when you are on or off course.  And if you’ve got good measurements in place and set up milestones you’ll know when you’ve gone off the beaten path and need to get back on again.

However, the one big piece of the puzzle is often missing.  How to stay motivated.  How to bring up the energy you need to get onto that path when you’ve followed a rabbit trail or hit a dead end.

That’s what I’ll show you here.

And it’s very simple.

Take that goal statement you’ve carefully crafted.

Now make it into a mental picture.  Now that you’ve got that mental picture bring it closer and notice how that feels.

If it feels stronger that way keep it close so close it’s pressing up against your nose.

Now make the colors brighter.  That’s right make them super bright.  It should be just bright enough that it won’t hurt your eyes.

Notice how powerful the image is now.

Now add some sounds to the image.  Make it full of life as if it’s happening right now all around you.

Really feel it and see it and hear it.

Now take that image and put it off into the distance, off into the future.  How much do you long to have that experience?  How motivated are you to get it?  I’ll bet you’re totally motivated now.
