Have you heard the term Fingerprint Jewellery?

You might have heard of, or you might know someone who has a piece of fingerprint jewellery. Basically fingerprint jewellery is the fingerprint of a treasured one your child, sister, brother, mum, dad, gran, husband, wife, girlfriend or just friend. Impressed into a piece of fine silver or gold.

This can take the form of a pendant or a braclet charm, cufflinks, in fact any piece of jewellery you can think of where a flat piece of silver/gold could be used. Even earrings for small fingerprints.

It is also not limited to fingerprints, childs drawings can also be used to make the impression.

How do you make fingerprint jewellery?

First you need something called precious metal clay – this is a substance that is 98% silver held together with an organic compound. You roll the clay out to the thickness you want your jewellery to be plus %15 to allow for shrinkage.

Get someone to put their fingerprint into the clay, then using a special cutter simply cut out the shape of the piece you require. Then leave it to dry for about 2 days. Or if you don’t have the time you can buy a de-humidifier.

Then the clay once dry can be engraved easily with a name or date etc. After that it needs to be fired either in a kiln or with a blow torch. All the organic compound burns off and you are left with silver.

It then just needs a polish and to be put onto a chain / bracelet. Easy a piece of fine silver / gold fingerprint jewellery
